Eye Bank


Started in 1970 as a charitable organization
The Eye Bank Association in Kerala (EBAK) at little Flower Hospital is one of the five major eye bank in India.
It collect around 1300 eyes every year and distributes donor tissues to about 20 eye hospitals all over the country.
The eye bank is equipped with a specular microscope and laminar flow hood.
It works round-the-clock
There are eleven sub centres for collecting eyes and 152 eye donation forums under this eye bank, spread over five districts of state.
Very active Hospital Corena Retrieval Programme (HCRP) is also run by the Eye Bank

 
Low visual Aids


Patients with subnormal vision which is not corrected with conventional glasses or surgery are referred to this clinic.
Optical low vision aids and non optical low aids are dispensed from here which include spectacle magnifiers, hand held magnifiers, stand magnifiers, Telescopes for distance and near vision, etc.
The service has all the necessary vision assessment including logmar charts for the paediatric and adult patients. The low vision assessment inventory includes a full range of different types of telescopes, optical and electronic magnifiers including the cctv and non optical aids. Teleophthalmology


Telephthalmology facility helps hospital to provide the service of the specialist to the rural people.
The telephalmology is a boon to the teaching programmes as it helps to interact with the professors in other major centres. Lakh people are screened through these camps every year. Telephthalmology facility is an added advantage for the community ophthalmology department.

 
Community Ophthalmology


Pioneers in conductiong community based screening programmes in Kerala.
Programmes of the department include the mobile eye camps, school screening programmes, training to teachers, Anganwadi workers, Kudumbasree volunteers, etc.
Every week around 4 to 5 camps are conducted.
More than a lakh people are screened through these camps every year.
Teleophthalmology facility is an added advantage for the community ophthalmology department.


 Optical shop


The optical shop caters to the needs of all the patients coming to the department. It has a good collection of different varieties of frames, spectacle lenses and sun goggles. Lenses and frames premimum brands are also available here. Service delivery is very prompt.
